The Hunting Dogs Of Boötes The Herdsman is a collection of live band versions and remixes of all the songs of the 2007 critically acclaimed Palumbo/Tomasini album “Canes Venatici” originally released on Blooming Noise. The band versions have been arranged and perfomed live in studio (no audience and no overdubs!) by Evor Ameisie, Paul Beauchamp, Fabrizio Modonese Palumbo and Ernesto Tomasini, the line-up that took Canes Venatici live on stage around Europe since its first manifestation. These live sessions will be available for free download as well.

Andrew Liles (of Nurse With Wound and Current 93), “el turco loco” Khan Of Finland and producer Marco Milanesio (of DsorDNE fame) have remixed 3 tracks from “Canes Venatici” that will remain exclusive to the CD editon of “The Hunting Dogs Of Boötes The Herdsman”.

The band will celebrate this release with a one-off show at the prestigious Volksbuehne theatre in Berlin on the 22nd of October 2010.

Recent Music Heroes

the first association by listening to this 3-piece album was "spectacular" and "theatrical". More profoundly, it is highly accentuated through the high-registered male vocals, punching drums, brooding synths. It was just the kick-off merely. Later it will be variegated with a spoken word snippet in the storytelling way (in Italian), the baritone singing hovering above the mesmerizing layers of a throbbing dark-hued composition. In fact, the more you listen to it the better it gets - a grower. Weird but convincing indeed.

Rumore

The Hunting Dogs of Bootes the Herdsman (Chew-Z) è un “ritorno” corale che coinvolge pure Andrew Liles, Evor Ameisie, Khan e Marco Milanesio.

Palumbo/Tomasini

Palumbo/Tomasini

Palumbo/Tomasini is a musical project of Fabrizio Modonese Palumbo and Ernesto Tomasini also called ALMAGEST!

Fabrizio Modonese Palumbo

Fabrizio Modonese Palumbo (active with Larsen, ( r ), Blind Cave Salamander and transversal figure of the contemporary international experimental music scene) and Ernesto Tomasini (sublime performer of the “castrato style", spanning classical theater and alternative cabaret, radio actor for the BBC and collaborator of, among others, composer/pianist Othon, Lindsay Kemp and Ron Athey) are two eccentric Europeans that through their music offer a dramatic and esoteric theatre for outsiders.
Their album “Canes Venatici” (published by the American label Blossoming Noise, alongside such artists as Genesis P-Orridge and Merzbow) where dark comedy, operatic overtones, minimalism and drone reach depths of intense emotion and explore altered states of consciousness, is the perfect cure for who feels the need to go beyond the limited borders of indie rock. In listening one feels as if peering out of a window of Doctor Caligari's Cabinet.
Started as a studio project, Canes Venatici is now presented live where Tomasini's 4 octave voice and Palumbo's guitar and electric viola are accompanied by the electro-acoustics of Paul Beauchamp (Blind Cave Salamander) and piano and keyboards of Evor Ameisie (founding member of Camerata Mediolanense and Northgate/NG). With this lineup and having named themselves ALMAGEST! after Ptolemy's 2nd century astronomical treatise, the group is now working on a new album.

Ernesto Tomasini

An iconoclast and innovative artist, Ernesto Tomasini moves with ease from classical and experimental theatre to radio and from contemporary music to alternative cabaret. Add to all that a sprinkle of television and cinema and you get an eclectic and exciting body of work". (Giornale Della Musica)
Tomasini was born artistically at 16 years old, as an "exotic turn" in a smoky club by the port of his hometown of Palermo. After his first steps in legitimate theatre with Italian star Duilio Del Prete and more cabaret, he trained at the Arts Educational Drama School in London. In the English capital he played lead roles with experimental theatre companies (Lindsay Kemp), in Off-West End productions (Blind Summit's "Mr China's Son") and on the West End ("Chicago - The Musical"). He went on to create his own shows to critical acclaim, giving birth to a cult following (see the "SHOWS" page on this site).
As avant-garde comedian and cabaret artist he has performed in theatres, nightclubs and cultural institutes in twelve countries around the world.
On radio he has sung and acted on all the BBC stations, Classic FM and on major programmes in Spain, France, Brazil and New Zealand. Among his TV and film appearances: "Crowded Skies" (BBC2, UK), "Premio Anna Magnani" (RAI3, Italy) "Boulevard" (RTL4, Holland) and "Children of Men" (Universal Pictures). As voiceover artist he has worked for directors James Ivory, Kevin Spacey and Ridley Scott.
In more recent times Ernesto has begun to lend his wide vocal range to experimental music projects, collaborating with up and coming composers (OTHON) as well as legendary names (Coil's "Sleazy"). As soloist Tomasini has sung in London at the Royal Albert Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Purcell Room and the National Theatre. He has performed in prestigious concert halls around Europe and has shared the stage with artists like Marc Almond, Antony (without his Jonsons) and David Tibet. As a recording artist he sings on four albums, one soundtrack and one single (for more details see the "MUSIC" page on this site).
A sought-after lecturer on theatre history and techniques he has given master-classes to drama students in England, Spain and Mexico.
Ernesto lives with his nephew in the heart of London's Chelsea. He collects first edition children books and only listens to music written before 1964.
