UR
Mauro Sciaccaluga - contact mic, violin, bass, electronics and video
Federico Esposito - bass, contact mic, electronics
Andrea Ferraris - kaoss pad, field recordings, theremin, contact mic, bass, electronics
Ur was born from the collaboration between Federico Esposito and Mauro Sciaccaluga, both hailing from the hard core-punk scene with bands like Heartside (F.E.), Never Was, Downrigth, Kafka (M.S.). The two joined in 2003 to work on F.E.'s industrial solo-project (a.k.a. Den LXV) live set, later they decided to start collaborating and improvising together to create a new project.
Andrea Ferraris joined the band in the very first days of 2005, contributing to define further on the sonic identity of the combo. A.F. is well known for having played and recorded with different bands ranging from hardcore to indie-post rock to experimental music (Burning Defeat, Permanent Scar, One Fine Day, Deep End, etc..).
Ur music is mostly based on improvisation that usually starts with drones or samples (with no pre-definite structure), to which they superimpose layers of electro-acoustic noisescapes coming from objects, field recordings, analog and traditional instruments processed using a load pedals and effects. The sound ends painting a solid, harsh and dramatic industrial lounge where archaic instincts and modern obsessions meet.
To use the words of a sound engineer after one of their live sets: ''it all sounds like early Pink Floyd on acid...on muriatic acid'.
The last effort of the band is titled: 'Triadic memories' and came out on Andrea Marutti's (Amon/Never Known) label Afe records (www.aferecords.com), while their forthcoming full-length is supposed to be realized during the beginning of 2007 by Hellektroempire records (www.hellektroempire.com).
