CWZ017 Pietra by Christian Alati]

Pietra is the debut album of Christian Alati, recorded in 2007 in his recording studio (Codhouse).
A complex and intense work, divided into two different but complementary tracks, introduces into an ipnotic and unreal dimension with a gradual pace.
Monolithic in its funereal gait, it rarely concedes and digs from the inside to the inside.
The chords are drifted into silence; noises, distant sounds are recreated into infinite spaces depending on the listener availability.
Pietra is not an album that you can love or hate, but it’s an album that loves and hates you.

Music composed by Christian Alati (2007)
Thanks to Alessandra Di Consoli and Christian Raimondi for their help in field recordings
Photos by Giovanni Curtrupi

Tracklist :
1.
CWZ016 Third Segment by 3EEM]

Third Segment is a new work for 3EEM.

...three men, from a land of hills, wine and some fog.

We met 3EEM when we've started Chew-Z (they were into First Aid Kit compilation), then we've shared music experience and now they present to us: Third Segment. It could be considered their third work, after the two albums on Small Voices and on White Label Music.
We like the essence of their sound: it could be the soundsystem for a tour around the solar system... and Chew-Z is the captain !

Composed and recorded between the end of 2008 and the beginning of 2009, Third Segment emphasize even more on the basic idea of 3eem: electronic rhythmic structures, alteration of sound sources, textures of saxophone and guitar between minimal riffs and short glimpses into improvisation, a sort of tribal rite making its way, overlapping between the certainty of live sound and its deviated interpretation.

All music written and composed by 3EEM.

Valerio Zucca Paul: electronics.
Fabrizio Bazzoni: tenor sax, electric guitar.
Danilo Corgnati: electric guitar, effects.

CWZ014 Lost In Weirdness by Japanese Gum]

Welcome to Japanese Gum on Chew-Z !
JG came from a town (Genova) that is one of the most beautiful in Italy (from our point of view) and that spreads a lot of interesting underground music. We’ve been impressed by their shoegazing sound; we’ve shared emotions and some live experiences and we’ve liked their e.p. on Marsiglia Records: “Talking.Silently e.p.”, so we started thinking on a remixed edition and here you are the results… The original delicate guitar drones has been forced under the pressure of the beats and rhythms by the hands of some other musicians (Arbdesastr, Die Stadt Der Romantisch Punks, Eniac, Grausamerg Eisenberg, Isan and Japanese Gum…); the reinterpretation has turned the songs in an alterated state: dreamy, coloured and onyric.

Lost In Weirdness is available in free download but also in a digipack cd audio edition on sales trough our shop.

Notes (by the Band) :

Tracklist :
1.Intro - Africanized by Die Stadt Der Romantisch Punks
2.After All, A Grey Collapse - Japanese Gum (recorded in spring 08, mixed in winter 08)
3.Sunday, 1:00 pm - Japanese Gum – spoken word by Enrico Bosio (recorded between 06 / 09, mixed in April 09)
4.Could The English Rain (wash it away?) - Remixed by Arbdesastr
5.The Undertaker’s Tombstone - The Undertaker’s Tombstoned – dubbed by Grausamerg Eisenberg
6.Declaration Of A Permanent Absence Of Will - dueling drum machines remix by Isan
7.Could The English Rain (wash it away) ? - Remixed by Eniac
8.Cluster Of Bees (early version) - Japanese Gum (recorded and mixed in March 07)
9.And Talk Silently - alt version by Japanese Gum – vocals by Stark Vision Of The Morning, flute by Greta Liscio
10.Gonna Look In The Backroom - Japanese Gum (recorded and mixed in January 08)

This album is composed by five remixes from our “Talking.Silently e.p.” realized by some of our friends between September 08 and May 09, one alt-version we have made with featurings, and four tracks performed by us, one really brand new, a couple old ideas refreshed into new shapes and one, a demo-early version.
We decided to put in this album all stuff loved by us, with no conceptual bases but the idea of two different extended playing, that we thought could be better and surely comfortable as well played in the same record.

Mastered by Martino Sarolli and Emilio Pozzolini at the Butchery, June 2009.

Big big special thanks to Fabio (Eniac) Battistetti and everyone at Chew-Z who had the patience to wait for us for really such long time!
Then, really thanks to all the beautiful people who put their hands/mids/souls in our tracks and remixed so well: Jukka Reverberi, Simona Barbera, Greta Liscio, Fabio Battistetti again, Antony Ryan and Robin Saville, Enrico Bosio, Paolo Campagnola.

Hello hello to our families and friends, cheers.

d. & p.

CWZ013 Slow by 9cento9]

This new work of 9cento9 is a travel inside deep emotions.
"Slow" is a contemporary music composition and it is very hard to describe the music of these strange feeling tracks.
They evolve in a mysterious way and let the listener discover them, as the discovering of a landscape of a hypothetical journey in a land where morphology changes every step the traveller takes.

There is a constant and quite fast evolution of the atmosphere in this ambient music that renders it deconstructed but in the meantime very concise and concrete.
Except for the smallest parts, there is a total absence of loops in favour of a formal research that creates melodies and rhythms using electronic devices with a deep knowledge.

This work is the antithesis of what is considered the current trend of making electronic music in today's day, but these tracks, notwithstanding the artist's skill in sound design are not only a void style exercise, but are also always loaded with self-explaining contents that are deep and warm.

Stunn-ep is the beauty of calculation and in the meantime its feelings are deep and warm.
Sometimes Yorgl is happy, sometimes sad, always his music is smart and wonderful.

Like opposing forces are bound together, the mood of this release will bring you in the world of small things and the biggest things, the pleasure and the pain, analogue and digital sounds.

A must and a very good new entry in the land of IDM and experimental beatnologism.

Here, on Mars, we are still dancing and the music never ends...woooowwww!

CWZ011 EP by Riga]

This is the first release from Riga, a trio from Milan, Italy: their music is an investigation of the human being in today's day.
Their vision is about a world where people live their lives like robots.

Riga interact their musical taste with strong visions from our reality.

The music is a fascinating old school deep synth electronica, used with clever beats and evocative noises and drones.
The compositions are brilliant, Riga uses crescendos in a similar way a post-rock band does.

Mutant Fish is the author of their visuals used during live performances.

The ep is available here in digital download for free, but you can get a copy of the compact disc that also includes the video tracks by Mutant Fish.

This work represents in a digital format, what a Riga & Mutant Fish live performance is.

CWS002 Treatment Effects by aa/vv Treatment Effects.]

We're enthusiastic about the songs included in Treatment Effects; for the first birthday of Chew-Z we've chosen to involve musicians close to us: there are some new names and some confirmations... let's talk about it...

We like Paul Beauchamp firstly as a person, we met him when he was performing with Sikhara, today he's a fine composer as you can hear with his song Nevica.

We have a special attractions to Genoa, and here you can listen to 3 kinds of different musicians from this town: Fabio Zuffanti is a songwriter of delicate sounds; instead the young Rocktone Rebel is a "pop blaster" with his personal 8bit devices... then Port Royal is a well known international electronic band, that we've liked from their beginning.

Sandblasting knows how to drive you in a total noise status but he also creates hypnotic grooves!

Satan Is My Brother continue their trip into the night, in the meantime they reached the production of the first album (out on Boring Machine).

Stefano Giust & Madame P had created Camusi, during an improv session and Back To The Present has been recorded in this way during their tour in Portugal.

Yorgl is an amazing jockey that chews dirty beats to make you dance, in this track he shows us a less known aspect of his productions: a deep granular ambient song.

Die Stadt Der Romatische Punks is again here, his music is slowly progressing from raw noises to a melodic status.

PassEnger is a young producer for a new dancefloor generation, he will have a future!

Riga reached us some months ago, this is an interesting audio/video project!

We met Simone Pelliconi some years ago and he surprised us with his compositions that until now have not be released with any label!

CWZ006 : suoni : oggetti : risonanti by Tiziano Milani]

The music, generically identified with few, singular characteristics: pay attention to the sound itself not to the relationship between the sounds, so apparent formal disconnection of the single events and slow executions; modules not very different along immense temporal periods. Composed sounds in sequence became less interesting than "order sounds on the time plot".

Music born of " abstract experience", in reality is spread of heterogenous presences.

The repeating processes are the rule, but they don't spend too much time and they leave the place for new repeating processes, creating a connection of static panels.

But the whole record develops exactly from this illusionistic game of exchange between static and dynamic panels. The rules of composition are stratigraphy.
The model is near the Xenakis' mass of sound conception.

From the Milani words: "What influences me? All that is around me. I have learnt to listen to the sound of ambients, cities and places, thanks to my job as acoustic architect. I often spend a lot of time listening without putting a cd on the stereo and playing music. Now the important thing for me is the sound. The manifesto of concrete music says: "we have called our music "concrete music" because it's composed by pre-existent elements, borrowed from any sounds both noise and traditional music. These elements are composed with experimental method by direct construction, not traditional musical construction."
I'm interested in places where I can hear the human presence reverberate. In this way the sound is the only protagonist. The sounds are very important also in social context, so an alteration of sounds also means changes in the human relationships. I have an oriental vision of time and space. Western music doesn't have an universalistic vision of the sound; it's closed into a blind isolationism and unable to feel the expanse of the universal sound language.
In reality I am an autodidact: I often thought of studying music but I am afraid of the sound's beauty so I studied by myself for ten years. In these years I have learnt to consider the sound not the music. So the important thing for me is the iteration between the cd's sound and the ambience where you listen to it. The life of the cd's sounds needs a regeneration through new situations and goads".

Original sounds by Andrej Bako and Karen O’Brien.
MKUltra is a long suite of minimal techno, an extreme remix and re-composing by Stefano Giust, based on a live solo concert, recorded in Reggio Calabria, Italy, on July 15th 2004.
Produced by Setola di Maiale with Chew-Z.

reviews

[Giorgio Pace, RockLab.it, 2007]

[Fabrizio Garau, Audiodrome.it 2007]

[Oscar Cini, Rockit, 2008]

The Wagon is a 6 track album, composed by Fabio Battistetti/Eniac, between 2004 and 2006.
The carrying topic of The Wagon is the railway suggestion: traveling on a train is a temporary place, and a typical place to observe Eniac, the music for this project starting from this compositional point.

The Wagon is also a mixedmedia performance where the audio side meets the visual set (based on landscapes from the wagon's window).

The author has always had a passion for traveling by train, this passion became habit when he started traveling everyday along the railway Turin - Milan, during these trips he composed a couple of songs of the album (with a laptop), and he began to plan the mixedmedia version of this project, and he filmed the video: Packetfiltering.

Produced at home and on a train during 2004; recorded and edited between May 2005 and January 2006, by Fabio Battistetti.
